The agrifood biotech cluster - Canada

Saskatoon's technology cluster is one of the bigger agricultural and food biotechnology clusters in the world. It has more than 20 years of history within the province of Saskatchewan, with a reputation for introducing "world firsts" into the market establishing itself as Canada's centre for plant and animal genome science.

BioFuel Region

BioFuel Region – a region that leads the world in biofuel BioFuel Region is the propelling force in a long-term process where regional co-operation is used to implement the development and introduction of renewable fuel, which is based on biomass from forests, fields and recycling. For the most part, the counties of Västernorrland and Västerbotten make up the region. The vision for BioFuel Region (BFR) is that we are going to be self sufficient in transport fuels in 2030 and a world-leading region in the area of cellulose-based biofuel that will be in the forefront of the acquisition of knowledge about biofuel, as well as being a leader in the development of technology, production and utilization of biofuel.

Uppsala BIO

The region of Uppsala, located 20 minutes north of Stockholm-Arlanda international airport, is today a buoyant center of biotechnology. In this comparatively small area, we find about one fourth of Sweden’s biotech sector in the shape of universities, industry and national agencies. Uppsala has a long tradition of working with biotechnology, especially tools and methods for research and development in the life sciences. Pioneering core technologies such as ultracentrifugation, electrophoresis, gel filtration and affinity chromatography were invented by Uppsala scientists. Many of these developments have spun off into successful products sold the world over by Uppsala-based companies.
