Software companies in Connecticut to receive mentoring

Companies of the Connecticut software clusters are about to receive mentoring of corporate CEOs on how to further grow. The Fast Track Program, an initiative of the state development agency, matches big companies CEOs with small software companies for a couple of hours per week.

Connecticut's software industry has about 175.000 workers in more than 1.000 companies, according to the Connecticut Technology Council, an industry association.

The industry does not show real growth says Les Trachtman, chairman of the Connecticut Software Cluster, a state economic development initiative. After the high tech bubble burst in 2000 venture capital slowed and few new businesses got off the ground.

The Software Cluster therefore designed the Fast Track Program to match promising technology companies with senior advisers to support the companies' growth. To start nine companies were selected

During the program mentors such as Michele Macauda, president and chief executive of SBC Communications Inc. in Connecticut , will work with companies for at least an hour a week for six months.
