Dutch senior expertise for Indian textile sector

The Textile Committee of the Ministry of Textiles of the Indian government has brought in senior expertise from the Netherlands. The Committee signed an agreement with the Netherlands Management Cooperation Programme (NMCP), an organisation that offers the expertise of senior managers.

The agreement is part of a cluster development program that has as goal to increase the competitiveness of Indian SMEs (small and medium enterprises) in the textile and clothing sector.

“Small and medium enterprises will get services of experts who will not charge for these. The Dutch government will bear the cost of their international travel. Local enterprises will have to take care only of the local logistics within the country” a spokesperson of the Committee declared. A visit of a NMCP senior manager may last two or three weeks and can be repeated every six months. Also additional training in Netherlands can be arranged.

The NMCP counts with senior managers with expertise in the area of textiles and clothing, including processing and manufacturing.

The Netherlands had a strong textile sector (wool and cotton) until it suffered severe crises in the 1960s and 1970s due to shortage of labour, changes in demand and the emergence of foreign competitors.
