The government of Ras Al Khaimah, one of the United Arab Emirates has signed a joint venture agreement with the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) in order to set up a Technology Innovation Centre.
This new centre is anticipated to increase innovation of technologies and process improvement for industrial and entrepreneurial partners in the region and the United Arab Emirates as a whole.
The centre aims to provide state-of-the-art applied research facilities in many advanced fields such as micro- and nanotechnology, microelectronics, systems engineering and information and communication technology.
H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, crown prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and Thomas Hinderling, Chief Executive Officer and member of the executive board of CSEM signed the agreement.
The Ras Al Khaimah Government holds a 51 percent stake in the innovation centre with the remaining 49 percent held by CSEM.
Hinderling stated that the excellent infrastructure facilities, industrial friendly atmosphere and the beautiful environment in the UAE were the reasons behind CSEM’s choice of Ras Al Khaimah.
CSEM, whose head quarters are in Neuchatel, Switzerland, boasts around 600 patents in various leading edge technologies and has a large portfolio of industrial and government clientele including NASA, IBM and Rolex.
