The Desert Knowledge Symposium and Business Showcase at the Alice Springs Convention Centre has attracted a strong line up of speakers.

The Desert Knowledge Symposium is a forum to exchange ideas for the greater use of desert knowledge for sustainable growth. Desert Knowledge Australia, the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre and the Desert Peoples Centre joined to host this 2008 Symposium and Business Showcase

Amongst the more than 120 presentations will be:

• Meg Wheatley - internationally acclaimed systems thinker and management expert;
• Aidan Ridgeway - Chairman of Indigenous Tourism Australia
• Ifor Ffowcs Williams of Cluster Navigators - an internationally recognised business clustering expert;
• Amit Kapoor - Chairman of the Competitiveness Initiative, Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, India;
• Carl Binning - Vice President Sustainability, BHP Billiton Iron Ore;
• John Scanlon - Principal Advisor with the UN Environment Program;
• Melanie Stutsel - Director of Environmental and Social Policy at Minerals Council of Australia;
• Jeanie Herbert - Vice Chancellor, Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education

The strong range of speakers reflects the depth of presentations about the six key themes:

• Making remote governance work
• Networking business and knowledge
• Learning for desert futures
• Capturing industry opportunities for desert people
• Seizing the desert environment opportunity
• Exporting desert knowledge

The Symposium will truly provide a great opportunity to showcase the work of desert knowledge organisations and build to the future. A strong element of the Symposium will be the consideration of Australian and International experiences in business and knowledge networks.
