Future of the credit businesses in Germany and Europe

The E-Finance Lab in Germany is a research consultancy that develops effective management procedures/structures within the financial service industry. Working in partnership with many large corporations (Deutsche Bank, Accenture, Siemens, Microsoft), researchers from Darmstadt University and J.W. Goethe University state that their “goal is to contribute methods and views to the realignment of the financial supply chain." Professor Dr. Mark Wahrenburg is leading a research-based project that is attempting to illustrate the future picture of the credit businesses in Germany and Europe.

Many conjecture that the credit business in Europe will disintegrate vertically and more effectively manage their risks by outsourcing. This will leave the industry more dependent upon their “core competencies” of lending to non-financial institutions. If this happens, credit organizations will no longer be as deeply involved with the industry’s supply chain and it will be vital that this gap is filled in the most viable and cost-effective manner. Understanding this, the research being led by Dr. Wahrenburg could provide the blueprint to a more competitive credit industry in Europe, with a special emphasis on clusters.
