The government of the Spanish autonomous region Cantabria puts in place a strategic plan and promotes the creation of an automobile cluster in the hope that it will raise the regional GDP by 8%.

At present, 28% of the region's GDP is taken up by the "automation" industry and almost 7000 families are directly affected by it.

Recent problems in the market and the effects of globalisation have prompted the government to act. With the aid of economical and social agencies, the principal companies in the sector and the University of Cantabria they now try to set up a successful cluster.

The main aim is to promote the collaboration between the companies within the sector and furthermore to face the numerous threats to the sector as a united front.

From the outset the government shall be the principal patron and the main one financing the project although it states that this shall only be in the short term and expects joint financing
in the future.

General Director of the Robert Bosch factory in Treto, Daniel Korioth, resumed the spirit of the cluster: "only together can we become stronger when facing the situations of the world and the sector."
