Indian export association offers expertise in BotswanaThe Indian Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) signed last month a memorandum of understanding with the Exporters Association of Botswana (EAOB) to offer its expertise in cluster approach for the growth and development of industry and export.
A three-day consultation programme on "Competitiveness through export clustering: Strategic considerations" was organised by the International Trade Centre in Geneva to find out more about the success story of the Tirupur knitwear cluster. Representatives from various developing countries, including Pakistan, Turkey, Botswana, Laos and Angola participated.
ITC, the agency of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Trade Organisation, also signed the memorandum. According to the memorandum TEA will provide the service and expertise through off-line and online consultations with EAOB. TEA will send office bearers, members and experts to Botswana for short durations for discussions with EAOB. TEA, an internationally acclaimed association, has successfully implemented many projects, programmes and activities for growth and development of small and medium enterprises and export of knitwear from Tirupur. Furthermore it has been a frontrunner in practicing cluster approach and has accumulated an abundant wealth of knowledge and experience in export promotion. "For the first time TEA has entered this kind of arrangement to provide our expertise to other countries. It's a great honour and recognition for us. Other countries also expressed interest and I hope we will sign more memorandums of understanding soon," stated Mr. Sakthivel. The Botswana exporters are keenly interested in making joint efforts to promote exports from their country. Source: The Indian Muslim Times Send article |
