The theme for the conference being held in Wellington over 23/24 May was "Driving Local Competitiveness". The conference offered to international participants the opportunity to meet with a wide range of New Zealand cluster development practitioners. 'TCI Oceania' had been formally launched during the conference. Within the next month we will prepare a TCI-O chapter on the website, offering more information on the region and possibilities for networking.

New Zealand businesses face significant issues of scale and location when working in today's global environment. New Zealand Trade and Enterprise hosted a two day 'Driving Local Competitiveness' conference in Wellington on 23/24 May 2006. Professor Michael Enright from Hong Kong University has been secured as keynote speaker for the event. Cited as "one of the world's reigning strategy gurus" by the Academy of International Business, Michael Enright is a leading expert on competitiveness, regional economic development, and international business strategy. He also directs the Asia-Pacific Competitiveness Program at the Hong Kong Institute of Economics and Business Strategy. Mike is a Founding Director and current Advisory Board Member of The Competitiveness Institute, and will be well known to many TCI members, particularly those who were at the Hong Kong conference.
