TCI takes part in Torino Euro-Latin American Forum for Regional Development

Within the framework of cooperation of TCI as international consultative institution in the Euro-Latin American Forum, some members of TCI had the opportunity to participate in the 2007 Forum Conference that took place on October 24-26 in Turin (Italy), where more than 250 participants from 14 countries gathered to share ideas and promote regional development in their regions.
En el marco de colaboracion de TCI como institucion consultiva internacional del Forum Euro-Latinoamericano, representantes de TCI tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en la Conferencia 2007 del Forum que tuvo lugar del 24 al 26 de Octubre en Torino-Italia y donde mas de 250 participantes de 14 paises se reunieron para compartir ideas innovadoras y fomentar el desarrollo regional en sus regiones.

For three days the Forum brought together members of universities, business associations, clusters, financial agencies, international institutions and governments of the regions of Rafaela (Argentina), Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina (Brazil), Antofagasta, Valparaiso (Chile), Antioquia, Valle del Cauca (Colombia), Galicia (Spain), Rhône Alpes (France), Piedmont (Italy) and Sonora (Mexico), with the aim to facilitate regions find partners and resources (human, business and financial) to develop entrepreneurial activities that contribute to the achievement of strategies for competitiveness based on innovation.

At the request of the organizers, TCI coordinated on October 24 the workshop "Public Policies for Cluster Development". Patricia Valdenebro (Project Manager) introduced TCI followed by Juan Manuel Esteban (President of TCI) and Alberto Pezzi (Secretary of TCI) who outlined the experiences of Basque Country and Catalonia, both regions with more than 15 years of experience in cluster policies. Carlo Ferraro from ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean), Santiago de Chile, was the co-coordinator of the workshop where Claudio Cortellese, from IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) - MIF (Multilateral Investment Fund ), Washington, also took part as a speaker.

The workshop was highly regarded by the Forum participants and despite being scheduled for just 3 hours, it had to be extended to the second day. In addition, the group showed interest in exploring future collaborations.

The Forum organizers kindly offered TCI a stand in the exhibition area where we could show some of the TCI publications such as "The Cluster Inititative Greenbook" and "The Cluster Policies Whitebook", both of great interest for participants and visitors.

Forum Torino
El Foro logró reunir durante tres días a miembros de universidades, asociaciones empresariales, clusters de empresas, sector financiero, instituciones internacionales y gobiernos de las regiones de Rafaela (Argentina), Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina (Brasil), Antofagasta, Valparaíso (Chile), Antioquia, Valle del Cauca (Colombia), Galicia (España), Rhône Alpes (Francia), Piemonte (Italia) y Sonora (México), con el objetivo de facilitar a las regiones la búsqueda de socios y recursos (humanos, empresariales y financieros) con los que desarrollar acciones emprendedoras que contribuyan al logro de sus estrategias de competitividad basadas en la innovación.

A petición de los organizadores, TCI coordinó el día 24 de Octubre el taller temático "Políticas Públicas para el Desarrollo de Clusters" en el que Patricia Valdenebro (Project Manager) hizo una presentación de TCI y Juan Manuel Esteban (Presidente de TCI) y Alberto Pezzi (Secretario de TCI) presentaron las experiencias de País Vasco y Cataluña, regiones con más de 15 años de experiencia en el trabajo de clusters. El taller estuvo coordinado también por Carlo Ferraro de la CEPAL (Comision Económica para América Latina y el Caribe), Santiago de Chile y contó asimismo con la participación de Claudio Cortellese, del BID (Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo) – FOMIN (Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones), Washington.

El taller fue altamente demandado por los asistentes al Forum y a pesar de estar previsto con una duración de 3 horas, el interés de los participantes hizo que se extendiera al segundo día. Además el grupo mostró interés por explorar futuras colaboraciones.

La organización del Forum puso a disposición de TCI un stand dentro del área de exposición en el que pudimos mostrar algunas de las publicaciones de TCI como "The Cluster Inititative Greenbook" y "The Cluster Policies Whitebook" y por las que los participantes mostraron gran interes.
