This study contains the outline and analysis of several Cluster Initiatives in the field of Photonics and higlights the commonalities and contrasts between photonics clusters developing and being developed in the United States, Great Britain and Germany.
Photonics, which is the subject of this report, is a high-tech field that has recently received a lot of managerial and political attention and which is often considered the key technology for the 21st century. The report explores the developmental aspects of clusters in this industry and more general how innovative high technology clusters work out not limiting itself to the rather static comparisons of former studies. By analysing clusters in different countries and different stafes, it gives a more processual perspective on photonics clusters and their evolution and management.
The importance of the social network systems and governmental issues is pointed out and the micro-processes within the cluster get special attention in this study.
