A word from the president
----------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last month we have been busy assembling more materials
from last September?s conference on our website. You can find it
in the Gothenburg section. These materials represent a rich trove
of experiences and lessons learned, with considerable depth and
diversity.
We encourage you to browse and explore these various resources.
At the same time, we realize that it is a challenge to glean
information from a conference in this way. For this reason, TCI
assigned IKED (Sweden?s International Organisation for Knowledge
Economy and Enterprise Development) to produce a White Book that
will capture and synthesize the key learnings from the conference
itself. We expect it to be ready before the end of 2003, so we
can make it available on our website to all TCI members.
We also like to bring your attention to the Regional TCI
Conference in Villahermosa, Mexico: the "Segundo Congreso
Latinoamericano de Clusters" (2nd Latin American conference on
clusters). Find all the information on the conference web page:
http://www.tabascoenaccion.org/congreso/congreso.htm.
Finally, we would like to welcome our new members from Stockholm,
Sarasota and Padstow (find short introductions below).
TCI staff, Barcelona.

Report on the miniforum "Donor funding of competitiveness
initiatives"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Report of the miniforum "Donor funding of competitiveness
initiatives". The objectives of the donor panel were to bring
together experts on cluster competitiveness with the
practitioners involved in donor funded projects who had not,
prior to this conference, been actively involved in previous
years despite a growing level of financial backing of such
initiatives. This report will outline the activities and results
of this panel.

Time to optimise clusters in Thailand
----------------------------------------------------------------
Strategic clusters were discussed at a regional development
conference in Thailand recently. Three provinces: Phuket, Phang
Nga and Krabi represent a potential water-related tourism
cluster. The strategy was outlined by Phuket Vice Governor, Winai
Buapradit who told representatives from business, government,
academic groups and other interested parties that more planning
was needed to ''make the most of the cluster''.
