Governance and Companies Involvement in Cluster Initiatives.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Find out about preliminary program, call for proposals and reduced
registration fees at Lyon 2006 link. Suggestions from our members are very
welcome. http://www.competitiveness.org/lyon

Word of the President
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Barcelona TCI headquarter with the support from Emiliano Duch have
offered to host a piloting TCI Symposium in April 27-28. The idea is to
gather 25 members and non-members specifically concerned by a hot topic, to
organise a systematic dialogue and to conclude with coordinated action
commitments. The format is 25 hours, lunch to lunch, including dinner and
late evening interaction. The theme for the April Barcelona Symposium is
cluster competitiveness evaluation. Read more about it on the website. And
if you have an idea on a hot topic for upcoming symposiums, please let me
know!

This years' Annual Conference in Lyon will offer exchanges of best
practices on governance of cluster competitiveness and the involvement of
business on different societal levels and contexts. Together with the
Lyon-Rhône-Alpes team I would like to revive and further develop the
appreciated action workshop design introduced in Gothenburg 2002. If you
have ideas on setups for such workshops, please share them! Over 30 early
birds have registered. Lyon is well on its way to beat TCI record in number
of participants!

Next year is the 10th anniversary of TCI and the Annual Conference is to be
hosted in the Americas. We are in early contacts with a handful of cities
in the US and Canada. But isn't it time for Latin America to take the
scene?! Any ideas – please, send an email or pick up the phone!

They were presented already to the TCI Assembly General in Hong Kong as
"Observers" on the Board of Directors. Since then the Board has decided to
assign responsibilities to nine Commissioners for a period of one year. Jan
Sandred for Marketing, Media and Information; Frédéric Miribel for France
and Europe; Alec Hansen for Washington DC Forum; Andrea Erdmann for TCI
Gender; Tracy Scott-Rimington for Oceania; Nigel Gwynne-Evans for the BRICS
countries; Prasad Bhamre for Central Asia; Thomas Winther for Africa and
David Nordfors for the Middle East and Innovation Journalism. You are all
warmly welcome aboard. TCI needs you to develop regional engagement and
contribute with your special knowledge. Read more about the missions and
the Commissioners' backgrounds on the website under Structure and
Organisation!

Beside the swap of President and the reinstallation of Elisabeth
Waelbroeck-Rocha as Treasurer - welcome back, Elisabeth! -we have one more
change in the Board of Directors. Alan Koziarski stepped down from his vice
presidentship for Asia Pacific for professioinal reasons after having
served for two years. Thank you for your important contributions and all
the great fun, Koz! The new acting Vice President for Asia Pacific is
Arthur Bayhan. Strictly, this decision, according to TCI Statutes has to be
taken by the General Assembly, which unfortunately was not possible in Hong
Kong. Read about Arthur and the Pakistani regional May conference in Jan
Sandred's interview with him on this newsletter (you can also visit the
Asia Pacific Section on the website). You are most welcome, Arthur!

Finally, note the new-opened Job Opportunities and Open Projects Forum on
the website. Please, use this space, members free, non-members €50 or €200
including membership.
