Technology cluster Patagonia

A new technology cluster in Patagonia was presented last Friday, Sept. 17 by governor Miguel Saiz of the Rio Negro province in Argentina. The COPAT cluster (Complejo Patagónico de Alta Tecnología) main goals are to: incubate innovative hi-tech companies, promote technology projects, promote investigation and education.

Both public and private sector participate in COPAT. The main particpants are the Nacional Commission for Atomic Energy (CONEA) and the Rio Negro Province. Technology companies such as Invap, Altec have a smaller share. Another public sector particpant is the council of the province's capital San Carlos de Bariloche.

According to governor Saiz San Carlos de Bariloche is the right spot for the cluster because it has the highest concentration of technologists and scientist in the country. With the presence of Invap, Altec, the Atomic Energy Commission and the Comahue University the city has a firm technological and scientific base.
