Stockholm, European Presidential Conference on Innovation and Clusters

Stockholm, Sweden. 22-23 January 2008
TCI Board of Directors was kindly invited to participate in the European Presidential Conference on Innovation and Clusters, organised by the Swedish and Slovenian governmet on 22-23 January 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden, under the Slovenian Presidency.

The conference was attended by over 400 participants including ministers, high-level representatives of regional development and innovation agencies. Well-known personalities and experts in the field of innovation and clusters addressed the conference, notably Vice-President Günter Verheugen of the European Commission, Prof. Michael E. Porter, Harvard Business School and Mr. Esko Aho, President of SITRA and former prime minister of Finland.

The Conference was part of the activities undertaken under the European Cluster Alliance established under the PRO INNO Europe initiative. Key messages from the Stockholm Conference include: clusters are today increasingly seen as important drivers of innovation, high productivity and competitiveness of companies and regions. However, there is a need to better streamline regional, national and Community instruments to support cluster development in Europe in a more efficient way and a need to remove barriers and create efficient mechanisms facilitating the cooperation between clusters, allowing them to become world leaders.
