Rick Sloan

Assistant Deputy Minister, Department of Industry and Economic Development, Government of Alberta Canada

Mr. Sloan's Industry and Regional Development Division leads the Alberta government's efforts to facilitate the growth of Alberta industry and has responsibility for a number of key value added manufacturing and service sectors. The Division carries out the department's responsibilities for its regional office network and supports community and regional economic development. Working closely with other departments, The Industry and Regional Development Division encourages policies and programs that support Alberta's competitive position. Rick has a strong background in regional and industrial economic development. Rick has worked in many facets of the economic development field for over 20 years. In his tenure with AED he has led the re-establishment of the tourism function within the Department, and helped create a system of regional economic alliances throughout the province. A major undertaking that he currently leads is the development of a value added strategy for the province. Securing Tomorrow's Prosperity (STP) ? Sustaining the Alberta Advantage is a strategy to accelerate the growth of competitive, export-driven, sustainable, and more diversified value-added goods and service industries, in order to increase Alberta's prosperity. The STP is the economic pillar of the 20-year Strategic Business Plan.
