Kazakhstan is building up its textile industry
Kazakhstani president Nursultan Nazarbayev recently visited the Yutex textile mill, one of the companies set up to develop a textile cluster in southern Kazakhstan.
Shymkent based Yutex produces yarn for hosiery, knitwear and carpets for export to Europe an Russia.
Yutex is one of the companies that got a financial injection from both public and private sector in order to create a textile cluster in the region.
The Kazakhstan Development Bank funded the project with 13 million USD. Another 6,3 million USD came from the British company Intrex Worldwide Ltd.
The main argument for choosing the Shymkent region is the proximity of the cotton fields.
