A Report by the European Tourism Research Institute with the purpose of emphasizing clusters as a means of developing the tourism and travel industry.
The paper aims to widen the understanding that the cluster concept not only provides an opportunity of economic growth, a higher level of innovation and an increased competitiveness to the manufacturing industry, but is just as important to the service factor.

The report is split in 3 sections:

  • general introduction of the cluster concept and then applied to the tourism and travel industry
  • an insight into how other regions have worked in order to develop
  • a case study on two tourist destinations and whether they constitute clusters or not
