The EU's new research framework proposal
The European Commission agreed on a proposal for a new EU programme for Research from 2007-2013. This proposal plans to increase Europe's competitiveness and growth, identifying knowledge as one of Europe's greatest resources.
More emphasis than ever before has been placed on research which is relevant to the needs of European industry in order to help it compete internationally and develop its role as a world leader in certain sectors. Another aim of the programme shall be to make participation in the programme easier through measures addressing the procedures. Despite this there shall be many elements of continuity: in practice, for the majority of participants, the programme itself will not change, but participation shall become simpler.
