Efficient strategies for local development: Exchange of experiences between Latin America and OECD

Next September 16 the International Conference "Efficient Strategies for local development: Exchange of experiences between Latin America and the OECD” will be carried out in the city of Bogota - Colombia.

This conference, organized by the National Planning Department (DNP) of Colombia, the LEED Program of the OECD and the Andean Corporation of Promotion (CAF), offers a platform to discuss the importance of the efficiency of public policies as means of economic development and social incorporation at a local level. This conference will be a unique opportunity for representatives of cities and regions of the OECD and Latin America to exchange experiences in the definition, implementation and evaluation of policies inside a strategy of local development, based on the experience of Colombia, several cities on other countries of Latin America and the OECD.

The aim of the event is to extend and to strengthen the activities of the CAF and of the OECD LEED Program in what concerns evaluation and exchange of experiences on initiatives of local economic development in Latin America. This conference also seeks to provide the opportunity to share the experience of Colombia and some other cities in Latin America and to identify the methods and proposals of different regions of the OECD that might be adopted in the region.

In a specific way, the purpose of this event is:
-To promote the exchange and the collaboration among organizations of governments, private sector, academicians, professionals, researchers and social entities.
-To analyze the impact of the local strategies of development in the economic and social well-being, and their importance in order to achieve a major prosperity.
-To identify the key factors of success and to establish the criteria to implement economic strategies for local development efficiently.
-To make local authorities aware of the dimension, nature and value of the strategies of local economic development.
-To exchange experiences among public, private and social sector collaborators in order to generate strategies of economic development at a local level.
-To provide help to the local, regional and national authorities and also to policy designers in the definition and implementation of strategies of economic development.
-To present experiences that articulate the business sector, research institutions, the civil society and the governmental organizations to activate the endogenous development.
-To share practices and international models of local economic development, which could contribute to the dynamic mobilization of territories.

Additionally, in this event, principal results of the LEED publication on "Investment strategies and financial tools of the local development” that has been translated to Spanish by the CAF will be presented.

The conference will rely on the participation of representatives of the public Colombian sector at local and national level, local and national authorities of other countries of Latin America and of the OECD, experts, academicians, representatives of the business sector, of universities, of trade chambers, of development agencies, representatives of investment agencies and other actors related to local development.
