The 12th TCI Annual Global Conference in Leipzig 2009 will be designed to address the issue of how regions undergoing structural change are capable of strategically transforming outdated industries into new, competitive, innovative clusters - and thus re-enter competition. In particular, the role of private players among various political and administrative parties as well as R&D institutions will be scrutinised and benchmarked in a process allowing experience to be pooled. In addition, a specifically designed TCI research project focusing on private business in financing cluster organisations will be developed. And fresh impetus for additional local developments will be gained by sharing experience with international experts.
Hosting Organisation: IICG - Industrial Initiative for Central Germany.
The Industrial Initiative for Central Germany (IICG) is a private initiative set up to promote and strengthen regional competitiveness with more than 50 members, including international investors, such as BMW, Dow, Siemens and Bayer. In addition to companies that play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s economic structure, IICG also involves chambers of commerce and local authorities from the three German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The IICG furthers projects and processes in three different areas: promoting innovation, intensifiying growth, and communication and marketing.
In October 2008 Leipzig hosted the first German Cluster Conference 2008. The two-day gathering of 300 participants was the first German event under the patronage of TCI-The Competitiveness Institute. Examining various cluster processes in Germany, both, from a practitioner’s and scientist’s point of view, the program aimed to portray the benefits of cluster processes. The conference can be regarded as a nationwide introduction to the TCI Global Conference 2009, that will also take place in Leipzig.
