Word from the President

This week Gothenburg, Sweden will be hosting the largest TCI global
conference that has ever been held. This 6th conference will provide
many opportunities for those with special interests to share and test
their experiences with others.
For those of you unable to attend, stay tuned to the TCI web site
during the Gothenburg conference. There will be daily updates from 17 to

One Country, Two Systems

When Hong Kong once again became part of China, it created the
opportunity and necessity to integrate two economic systems: That of
British - Hong Kong and that of the Pearl River Delta belonging to
the Chinese republic. How this integration is progressing can be
read in a recently completed 256-page report by The 2022 Foundation.

Final report of the expert group on enterprise clusters and networks

A recent report compiled by the European Commission discusses enterprise
clusters and networks. The report is based on the knowedge of experts
from all over Europe and was complied by the European Commission.

Kobe to strengthen medical industry cluster
-------------------------------------------
The Kobe Medical Industry Development Project represents Japanese
cluster development on a grand scale within the medical industry. Kobe
is located in the Kansai region, which accounts for 19% of Japan's GDP
(50 billion US dollars in 1998) and takes advantage of a large
population of 23 million. Within this advantageous region, the Japanese
government has worked with the city authorities and private industry
to design and build a world-class research facility: Kobe Medical

the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. The
dissertation is about increasing the competitive advantages of companies
with business clusters.
