A word from the president
----------------------------------------------------------------
This month I'd like to turn the tables, and ask you, the TCI
membership, for your assistance on two important initiatives.

First, we are now rapidly building our Knowledge Center, the core
of which is our Cluster Initiatives Database. This is a true
example of a 'public good' -- by telling us about cluster
initiatives you're familiar with, we can make the TCI website a
"go-to" source of knowledge about clusters the world over. It is
very simple to contribute: simply click here and fill in the
blanks. If each person receiving this email reports a single
cluster right now, we will add thousands of cluster initiatives
to our database. Please keep in mind that here we are focusing on
Cluster Initiatives -- where some concerted action is leading to
a cluster-based strategy -- rather than the mere existence of a
well-established cluster (e.g. Hollywood).

Second, in conjunction with our desire to hold the 2005 annual
meeting in the Asia Pacific region, we are launching a membership
expansion program in Asia. If you have colleagues in Asia who
would be interested in joining TCI, please forward their names to
us, and we will contact them. Creating more balance in TCI's
membership seems a daunting task, so we are trying to take it on
one continent at a time! Simply hit "reply" to this email in
order to provide us with your competitiveness contacts in Asia.

Digital media arts cluster for Texas

announced that it has created a new digital media arts technology
cluster.

Thai Prime Minister wants better cluster performance
----------------------------------------------------------------
At a recent meeting with the Thai Competitiveness Committee,
Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra expressed displeasure over the
slow development of the industry cluster programme, which was
initiated last year to build competitiveness of Thai products, a
source from the Government House said.
