Introduction

Although we are already preparing for next year´s conference in
Hong Kong, there is much to gain from browsing through what took
place in Ottawa, where we brought together 240 cluster
practitioners, and broke new ground in several areas.
You can view or download nearly all conference papers and
presentations, and we received a lot of interesting feedback from
our members.

I'd specifically like to mention that we presented awards to
Giacomo Becattini and Stuart Rosenfeld, two outstanding cluster
experts, for their contributions to the foundations of cluster
based economic growth.

Participants gave us one clear mandate for the coming year: more
conferences like this, but focusing on specific geographic
regions -- allowing wider participation and lower costs of
attendance. Accordingly, TCI will aim at organising regional
conferences for Latin America, North America, the Baltic Sea
Region, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Africa. We also plan
a conference focusing on emerging and transitional economies.
