Word of the President
======================================================
This month I would like to draw your attention to a new book, recently published by Prof. Michael Enright, our conference host on the regional development in China. The book comes as a perfect introduction to this years' conference in Hong Kong:
"Regional Powerhouse: The Greater Pearl River Delta and the Rise of China", by Michael Enright, Edith Scott, and Ka-Mun Chang (Wiley 2005), captures the essence of China's largest and most internationally-oriented economic region. The Greater Pearl River Delta, consisting of Hong Kong, Macao, and the Pearl River Delta Economic Zone of Guangdong Province, has taken advantage of its complementarities to develop some of the world's most dynamic clusters and to become one of the world's leading economic regions. Whether you are concerned about competition from China, or excited about market prospects in China, the Greater Pearl River Delta region simply cannot be ignored. (More information on the book).
The Greater Pearl River Delta will be just one of China's regions highlighted at the 8th Annual Conference of The Competitiveness Institute, "Enter the Dragon: China's Emergence and International Competitiveness."
Register now at www.tciconference8.org! An early-bird registration fee is available before September 15! We recommend you to also book your hotel well in advance as this is a very busy time in Hong Kong. The conference host has arranged special prices for you at the conference hotel Shangri-La. For more information please see the website of the conference.
Hope to see you soon in Hong Kong!
