The Competitiveness Institute Newsletter, Jul 13, 2005
=============================================================================
Following TCI strategy to professionalize the leadership of TCI, the Executive
Committee supported by the Advisory Board decided to recruit a full time
Executive Director. Beside developing and improving the annual conference, the
Director will identify, develop and realize services that clearly adds value to
the members of TCI such as promoting and mediating the upgrading of knowledge,
research & evaluation, highly selected training/regional conferences. One
important aspect is to raise funds and incomes significantly for TCI. The
Executive Director will work closely to the chairman of the Executive Committee.

The contract is initially for two years, with every expectation that this will
be extended conditional on performance. The contract will begin in November this
year. The value adding services are expected to be developed and marketed in
order to create incomes covering the person's salary. The salary is negotiable
and is expected to be in the region of 50 000 to 70 000 Euro. An attractive
bonus will be negotiated in addition to the salary.

The candidate will present a tentative business plan that will be assessed as
part of the preparation for the employment decision.

The Executive Director will develop ideas that enhance TCI strength and strategy
improvement, following the instructions from the Executive Committee, proposing
to the Executive Committee and other committees, presenting projects,
monitoring, following-up, promoting the build up of networks needed to develop
TCI (for example national contact points), benchmarking and benchlearning.

Pending a formal agreement between TCI and the Foundation "Clusters and
Competitiveness" the person might also resume the responsibilities of Executive
Director of the Foundation (www.clustercompetitiveness.org). The Foundation
provides a survey-based assessment tool for cluster initiatives, with the
analysis work done by external academic partners. As an Executive Director, the
person would be responsible for attracting new cluster initiatives as clients,
interacting with the board of the Foundation, and further developing the offer
of the Foundation in co-operation with its academic partners and the members of
the foundation.

The Candidate will be selected from the following criteria:

* global marketing experience, knowledge of markets
* experiences from competitiveness cultures (deep understanding of the "ball
game" leveraging networking and the context of globalisation beyond cluster
development)
* experiences from organisations like TCI (membership of TCI is an advantage
but not a must)
* executive/leader/organising/collaborative/communicative
* high motivation
* multilingual, excellent English

Application from both female and male applicants are very welcome - please send
them to our TCI headquarter fblunck @ competitiveness.org . Deadline for
application is 15th of June.

Best regards,

Alec Hansen
